October 2010: Michael Conterio - The Worst ideas in Science

Our October event's success was in part down to the sheer enthusiasm of our speaker, Michael Conterio who was highlighting the fact that scientists don't always get things right. It's easy to get the impression that Science progresses purely by a bunch of boffins working out exactly the laws of the universe. He described some wrong ideas from the past, many of which worked well but were discarded in favour of better ideas, some that just required tweaking to get it right, and others that were just plain wrong!
